21st Feb - Frequently Given Answers
Q: Where have the Calibur's moved to?
A: FACS Calibur 1 (Mad Moongoose) has moved into the room next door to where it was previously housed, still on level 2 Monash Immunology. FACS Calibur 2 (Uncle Joe) has moved down stairs to level 1 of Monash Immunology, almost directly below where it was previously housed. If you have trouble locating them please ask.
Please note that unbooked use of these instruments will result in you being banned from using them.
Q: When will the new instruments be coming / ready for use/ be able to be booked?
A: Soon. When we know, we'll let you know. If you feel like asking in person to see if you'll get a different answer, please be aware that due to the frequency of this question and the unchanging response, you owe us a drink.
Q: What's different about the new instruments?
A: A few things, such as more detectable parameters and other assorted added options. We'll be holing a short seminar next month to go through them and answer any questions. We'll also use that as an opportunity for a users forum should anyone have issues they'd like to raise.
Q: It's now a bit squashy at the LSRII
A: That's not a question, but we are aware of the space issue. We're looking into getting a slimmer table for the ARIA computer to create a bit more room. That too will happen 'soon'.
ARIA BLOCK BOOKINGS / FEB AVAILABILITY
As some of you have seen form the booking sheet, several days in Feb and March have had ARIA access blocked out. This is important as we are trying to coordinate days for refurbishment of the lab for installation of new instruments. So, please be aware of the following:
- We do not know the exact date of when the new instruments will arrive and when they will be operational / available to book.
- We probably will not need all the time we booked out, but until we can coordinate builders / engineers together, they will stay booked out until we know. Keep watching this space to when / if time becomes available.
- Geza & Michael need to be trained on the new instrument in the last week of Feb, so there may not be time to do sorts that week.
Thanks for your understanding, any questions please send us an email.
